Using the graphical ladder editor on the robot pendant is a powerful feature to help visual logic and monitor the logic flow. The standard functionality simply shows structure and addresses. It is possible to add a small comment to each address to aid in troubleshooting and understanding.
The top run in the example below shows text added:
#20010 ~ EXTERNAL
#70010 ~ EXT ST A
The text display is limited to 8 characters. This can make it challenging to create and define the text necessary to help. This guide will go through the process of creating the file and using it. It is then up to the user to develop and iplement creative names, if this process is beneficial.
Process - Create a NAM file
- The easiest way to do this is with the YRC1000 LadderEditor PC software.
- Load a ladder file. Then go to the menu: Edit > Relay Labels and Run Comments ...
- It will show a new module:
- Scroll to a address to edit and click on it. By default some items will have a "Comment" but no items will have a "Label". Enter as many labels as you can. These are the items that will display on the robot's pendant.
- Press "Update" button after each entry. (Warning ~ Pressing the Enter key closes the data entry module.)
- When complete with data entry, go to the menu: File > Save Relay Label File
- If the user does not have access to the LadderEditor PC software, the manual (179480-1CD) can be followed in section 27.3 which explains the text format for the .NAM file. To create or edit a file on your own.
Pendant Work
- Now with the file saved, copy it to a USB drive or CF card. Insert that flash device into the robot's programming pendant.
- If the file is available, it will immediately display the comments like:
and - If there is a reason to hide the comments or names, you can select this menu item:
OPTION > Hide Relay Name - The names can be turned on by: OPTION > Show Relay Name.
