Starting in the summer of 2025, ArcWorlds and other systems engineered at Yaskawa began shipping with a Sequenced Time-Limited Reset Function added. This generally includes the addition of Pre-Reset and System Reset buttons to the system. This article briefly explains the sequential usage of these buttons and provides video examples of how they are utilized.
Each ArcWorld product includes a section in the manual to explain the usage. Some of that text is duplicated here for ease of access and searching.
Sequenced Time-Limited Reset Function
These cells implement a sequenced time-limited reset function for the safety fence enclosure which surrounds the robot(s). The operation may vary based on mode of operation:
- TEACH Mode
- SERVO ON can be enabled with the entrance gate open while the TEACH pendant is held appropriately with the three-position switch.
- Following the sequence that is listed in the PLAY mode (that follows) the gate can be closed, and the
logical latching of the gate in TEACH mode can be established if desired.

- SERVO ON can be enabled with the entrance gate open while the TEACH pendant is held appropriately with the three-position switch.
PLAY Mode
When the PLAY mode functionality is included, the following process will
be required to enable SERVO ON:- The operator will begin by opening the Safety Gate, if it is closed.
– The PRE-RESET button will flash until it is pressed. - The operator will enter the robot’s designated area, observing, inspecting, and verifying that they are the only person in the designated area.
- The operator would then press the PRE-RESET button mounted on the fence.
– Upon pressing, the blue indicator will stop flashing and display solid.
– There is a set amount of time (approximately 15-25 seconds depending on cell configuration) given to exit the cell and successfully close the gate.
– The door will only be closed if the operator is confident that no one else has entered the cell since the button was pressed. - The gate will be in the “PRE-RESET” state. DO NOT SERVO ON yet.
– The PRE-RESET light on the station inside the enclosure is now off. - The operator will go to the front of the cell and press the SYSTEM RESET button. The light on the button will be flashing.
– The SYSTEM RESET button has the dual purpose of indicating the need to reset the Light Curtains and the Gate Interlock. - Once the LIGHT CURTAIN RESET / SYSTEM RESET indicator has stopped flashing, the operator will be able to SERVO ON.
a) If in Remote Mode, enable SERVO ON from the operator station.
b) If NOT in Remote Mode, enable SERVO ON from the Programming Pendant.
- The operator will begin by opening the Safety Gate, if it is closed.
PRE-RESET Button:
This button is mounted within the cell. Generally there will be one button per open door, especially in the case of ArcWorlds with 2 sliding doors. This allows the convenience of placing the control near the door. Only one button needs to be pressed regardless of the number of doors open. But after pressing the button, all doors must be closed within the pre-reset time frame (approximately 15-25 seconds depending on the cell configuration).
The PRE-RESET button is blue. The LED will illuminate differently based on the following conditions:
- FLASHING - In this condition the system requires the PRE-RESET sequence (see “Sequenced Time-Limited Reset Function” above for more information).
- ON (steady blue light) - The PRE-RESET sequence has been enabled, and the timer is running.
- OFF - The PRE-RESET latch has enabled. The gate is closed, and all personnel must be out of the safeguarded area with the robot(s).
SYSTEM RESET Button:
This button may have double functions:
- It can reset light curtain clear status
- It can also be the final reset for sequenced time-limited reset function.
This button/indicator flashes after the light curtains near the associated operator station have been violated or the safety gate needs to be reset (see section “Sequenced Time-Limited Reset Function” above). A flashing status indicates a reset is required and is done by pressing the button momentarily.
User Messages:
| Message | Explanation | Remedy |
| GATE CLOSED WITHOUT PRE-RESET | Entrance Gate Closed without pressing PRE-RESET button or Time Out occurred. | Open Gate and follow sequence defined above or in the specific cell manual. |
| SERVO-ON NEEDS SYSTEM RESET PB | PRE-RESET latching occurred, but the system cannot SERVO-ON completely until the SYSTEM RESET button is pressed at the front of the cell. | At the front of the cell a button labeled SYSTEM RESET will be flashing blue. Press it to resolve this message. |
