The MLX100 Gateway card is a board in the PLC rack that will receive commands from the PLC ladder logic AOIs to command robot motion and robot configuration settings. When a MLX100 Gateway card is not functional, it will need to be replaced with a new Gateway card.
Typically, a new Gateway card is setup at Motoman before shipment. However, if it needs to be configured in the field, this document explains the procedure on how setup a new MLX100 gateway remotely. It will step through the process on how to copy files from the old Gateway card so they can be sent to Motoman to generate a new a license file for the robot models and options configured on the existing system. This information is also helpful for configuring a spare part Gateway card for a customer.
MLX100 Gateway Card Part Numbers
Motoman stocks the common part number of an unconfigured Gateway card.
159063-1 MODULE,CPU,MLX100,SOURCE CONTROL(OBS)
The part number of a customers Gateway card is a higher level part number where the 159063-1 board was configured for a particular robot. For example:
159064-1 MODULE,CPU,MLX100 GATEWAY,MPK50,W/SOFTWARE(OBS)
Obtain Files from Old Gateway Card
- Copy the entire “IDE Disk2” diretory off the old non-functional Gateway card that was previously used in production. Use an FTP client software package like Filezilla to download the files to a computer. The steps below will explain how to copy the IDE Disk2 directory.
- As an option, send the non-functional Gateway card to Motoman for the files to be downloaded.
- Install FileZilla or another FTP client on your computer.
Free download : http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
3. Startup the FileZilla app.
4. At the top of the screen, enter:
- Host: 192.168.1.200
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
- Port: 21
- Press [Quickconnect]
5. If step 4 doesn’t connect successfully, open a Command Prompt on the computer and try pinging the gateway card:
Ping 192.168.1.200 (If 32 bytes are sent and received four times, it’s communicating)
6. The lower left side of this screen shows the “Local site”, or your computers directories. Browse to a location on the computer where the old Gateway files from the customer were stored.
7. The lower right side of this screen shows the “Remote site”, or MLX100 gateway card. It should default to the root directory.
8. Under the Filename column on the right side, select and drag the “IDE Disk2” directory from Gateway root directory (Remote side) to the computer (Local site) side of the screen.
9. Zip this “IDE Disk2” directory to be sent to Motoman in a later step.
Obtain the Serial Number and Mac Address off the New Gateway
1. Place the new Gateway Card in a ControlLogix PLC rack and power it up.
2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the ETHERNET 1 connector on the Gateway card to the computer.
3. Configure the computer Ethernet/IP address to a static IP in the same subnet as the Gateway card. (Example: 192.168.1.21)
PLC address: 192.168.1.2
Gateway address: 192.168.1.200
Set computer address to 192.168.1.xx
4. Telnet into the Gateway by entering this command at the Windows RUN window:
5. Type the following commands in the telnet window.
- cd ide disk2 - change directory
- Rename _run.bat _run.old - change batch file name so it won’t run at powerup.
- Time and enter current time
- Date and enter current date
6. Type “moduleinfo” and record the Serial Number and MAC Address of the new Gateway card.
7. Take a picture of the information shown above. The Serial Number and MAC Address is required to generate a new license.
8. Cycle power to the PLC rack. RLX-R automatic start-up is now disabled, so it’s possible to replace the executable and datafiles.
Email Information to Motoman Partner Support
1. Email the “IDE Disk2.zip” File and the picture of the Serial Number and MAC Address to Motoman Partner Support.
2. Motoman Partner Support will generate a new license file, and email back the IDE Disk2 zip directory back with the new License.dat file.
3. Unzip the IDE Disk2.zip file and use FileZilla copy the IDE Disk2 directory back to the gateway card, by dragging the directory back to the Remote side.
4. Cycle Power
Reset the Gateway Card for Execution
1. Telnet back in, and type “cd ide disk2”.
2. Type the command below to rename the batch file back to its original name. This will startup the MLX during the next power cycle.
rename _run.old _run.bat
3. Cycle power.
Add the Gateway Card Stickers for Identification
1. Add sticker showing software version installed. Copy the version from the old Gateway card label.
For example, enter the label as: RLX VER: 3.3.0
2. Add a sticker below the Yaskawa label, showing the robot model name(s) that the gateway was configured for. Copy the robot model numbers from the old Gateway card label.
For example, a single robot gateway label: MH5LS
For example, dual robot gateway labels: MPK50 & MPL160 or MPL80 & MPL80
