To aid with troubleshooting of weld issues in UWI, there is a built-in feature for logging the execution of the code. This log is human readable and intended to help an operator or technician diagnose the cause of unexpected behavior.
There are three levels of logging verbosity:
- Mandatory
These statements will always be logged when they are encountered during execution. These will generally only occur when there is a robot alarm, power source error, or the user attempts an invalid operation. - Debug
This level includes additional messages to help document the execution of the welder control loop. It can be used to see the timing of when the software recognizes a change in state and tries to act on that change. This is useful when something “isn’t acting right”. - Debug – Level 2
Level 2 is an extremely verbose method of logging that shows the process of parsing and calculating weld parameters. This is not recommended for any normal operator or technician. It should only be used at the request of PSG engineering.
Debug logging can be activated on the pendant under [Arc Welding] > [Log Viewer]. Navigate to the [Settings] menu and change the [Logging Level] to “DEBUG”.
By default, debug logging will automatically turn off when the controller is rebooted. This can make it difficult to troubleshoot an issue that could be occurring during startup. To have debug logging persist after a reboot, you can set parameter A1P499 = 1.
When debug logging is enabled, there will be an alarm on the pendant to notify you about the increased verbosity. “WARNING: Debug logging enabled”. This can be reset and ignored.
Please note that debug logging must already be enabled when the problem occurs. You cannot enable debug logging after an event and see retroactive messages.
When a robot alarm occurs that is related to welding, a copy of the log file will automatically be saved to the USB flash drive inside the YRC controller cabinet (CN102).
Operation
When opening the Log Viewer, the log entries will be listed chronologically from top down. You can navigate through the log using the arrow keys on the pendant. Each entry will be listed with the timestamp of when the entry occurred.
By pressing SELECT on the pendant keypad, you can see additional details about a particular selected entry. You can also choose to set a relative timestamp so that all other entries show the time since this particular entry.
In the FILTER menu, you can choose which log entries are displayed on the main screen. For instance, if debugging a problem with Welder #2, it may be helpful to hide any entries for Welder #1.
The EXPORT button allows you to manually save a copy of the log file to a memory stick in the pendant.
