Introduction
This procedure describes how to simulate General Purpose Inputs, External Inputs, and External Outputs allowing a user to force and test bits when actual bits cannot be triggered, due to missing or damaged devices.
Background
On occasion I/O may be needed to be tested or bits need to be forced to run or diagnose an issue. This process will show how to simulate General Purpose Inputs, External Inputs, and External Outputs.
Procedure
- Make sure you are in TEACH mode and set system security to Management or higher security level.
- General Inputs would be the bits to simulate as those most commonly are the bits used in jobs. Go to IN/OUT à GENERAL PURPOSE INPUT.
3. Move the cursor to the small box and press SELECT to enable SIM on the desired IN#. Example: IN#0001 #00010 below. A message appears at the bottom of the screen regarding I/O Simulation.
4. Move the cursor to the circle radio button. The user can toggle the bit by holding INTERLOCK and SELECT keys.
5. The system can be switched to PLAY or REMOTE and started but a message will appear when doing so.
The user will receive a notification window when attempting to start the system with an I/O with SIM in a box.
Pressing YES will allow the system to run maintaining all simulated IO bits’ status regardless of any external conditions for those bits. A follow-up press of the START button will begin the system. Pressing NO will not run the system.
6. Other conditions may require simulation of EXT I/O as well as General Purpose Inputs. Go to IN/OUT à EXT INPUT or EXT OUTPUT depending on desired bits. The process and screens are similar.
7. The Ext I/O pages will appear in Simple mode. To switch mode, press DISPLAY à DETAIL.
8. Move the cursor to the small box and press SELECT to enable SIM on the desired EXT IN#/EXT OUT#. Example: #20010/#30010 below. A message appears at the bottom of the screen regarding I/O Simulation.
9. Move the cursor to the circle radio button and the user can toggle the bit by holding INTERLOCK and SELECT
10. The system can be switched to PLAY or REMOTE and started but a message will appear when doing so.
The user will receive a notification window when attempting to start the system with an I/O with SIM in a box.
Pressing YES will allow system to run maintaining all simulated IO bits’ status regardless of any external conditions of those bits. A follow-up press of the START button will begin the system. Pressing NO will not run the system.
11. IO Simulation List
The IO Simulation List (located in the I/O section) provides users with 3 simple pages to scroll through Ext In, Ext Out, and Gen In simulated IO without needing to navigate multiple areas to locate them all.
12. The top of the screen represents which IO is shown. If no IO is simulated, a message will be displayed. The user may also need to confirm an alternate signal output vs input / input vs output by using the PAGE membrane key. Pressing the PAGE icon on the screen shows the other 2 available screens. Move the cursor up or down and press SLELCT to make a choice or CANCEL to escape.
Simulated IO enabled will show on screens as the user scrolls through pages.
13. The user has the option to disable SIM of IO and trigger from each of the screens by using the same technique as stated in steps 3 and 4.
14. The Edit button allows users to search for any specific relay or signal number (Gen Purpose input screen only) if known.
15. The rename feature allows users to rename simulated IO.
16. SELECT ALL PHY will disable all simulated IO of that type. To disable EVERY IO, the user may need to page through all 3 screens and SELECT ALL PHY from the EDIT icon. There will be no message when returning IO to the PHYSICAL state.
17. Screens will return to the original format with no simulated IO.
