If the software is already installed, you can check if the current version is installed by going to the top menu:
Help > Check for Update. (If an update is needed go to the link above.)
Hardware Assumption:
Hardware is a Sick microScan3 – this is the area scanner used as a standard option in the YRC1000 ArcWorld 6000 family in YRC1000 and some iterations of STEM EduCarts.
Backup the Current Configuration:
Connect the PC to the scanner by USB cable. Yaskawa provides this cable to the customer when it shipped.
A replacement part would be Epicor part # 160414-3
Or similar can be procured by the customer through Amazon, etc. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-2-0-Cable-Male/dp/B00NH13S44?th=1
Start the software.
Select “Search for Physical Devices”. This will find the scanner if it is connected and powered.
A new window opens; the scanner should be shown in the right side window. Double click on it.
If prompted about “Larger functional scope available”, for this purpose select “No” and skip the update.
This brings the device into the Device Overview in the left view and should show as “Connected” status with a green indicator.
For example:For example:
Double click on the device that is connected. A new window opens.
Maximize the program window.
From the top menu, press the button “Upload” or “Read from Device”, this means to upload the data from the device into the PC. (This text varies depending on the software version)
At the sub-window that appears select: “Read in Selection” to acquire the data.
When the upload is complete press the SAVE icon. It should prompt for a file name.
Save this file where you can find it later, to do the restore sequence when the replacement hardware arrives.
This completes the backup.
Restore the Configuration:
Connect the PC to the scanner by USB cable. Yaskawa provides this cable to the customer when it shipped.
See Backup section above for cable options.
Find the file that was used for backup previously. Double click it to launch the Safety Designer software.
If a message says this was created with an older version of the software, press OK to continue.
From the top menu, press the Connect button.
After a few seconds the device list show a scanner connected on the right side.
From the device overview window (on the left side), select the existing microScan3 device, click the arrow in the upper right corner, then select “Remove Allocation.”
Confirm that the microScan3 says “No device assigned” before proceeding:
Now left click and hold on the microScan3 under “Found devices” and drag this scanner on top of the microScan3 in the Device overview window. Release the mouse button.
After step #7 is successfully accomplished, the microScan3 will be removed from the Device search window. The microScan3 in Device overview will show “Connected USB”
Next, press the Transfer or “Transfer to device” button from the top menu.
This pop-up window appears. Confirm that the device type is “microScan3”, then press the [Transfer devices] button
If the transfer succeeds jump to step 11 below.
If the transfer failed, check the Trasks List at the bottom left corner of the screen:
Click the “Tasks” text and the list of issues will be displayed.
It is likely that an issue like “A password must first be assigned…” is in the list. If true, click the blue “Solve” text:
Some versions of this software require the password to be set manually. This is the process.
Navigate the tree on the left to show “User password”.
Then check the box for “Administrator”
Then check the little pen icon to the right of the password field
After pressing the pen icon, the Administrator field is now editable. Enter “SICKSAFE” in both fields. You can press the “eye” to change visibility of the password to confirm what you are typing in.
Now press the “Transfer to device” button at the bottom of the view above.
When this window appears select “Transfer selection”.
Wait a few seconds for the program to transfer to the device.
When prompted for Test Mode, select [No]
Now go online with the device itself. From the Device overview screen, either: (a) double click on any text about the device – or – (b) single click the button in the top right corner. See areas below highlighted in yellow
Now we are online with the device.
Press the [Verify] button from the menu:
When the Verification Report appears, simply press [OK] to continue.
If the [Start] button is available in the top menu, press it. (If “Stop” is showing then the scanner is already running, and this step can be skipped.)
Programming of the scanner is complete.
Validate:
Run some cycles with the customer present.
Often when installing the area scanner again some alignment may be required. It could be different relative to the floor or other surfaces. When possible, try to adjust the mounting instead of changing the software.
But if all else fails the fields could be adjusted to avoid obstructions found by installing again.
