Upgrading Controller Software on YRC1000 and YRC1000micro using a Smart Pendant

Introduction

As Yaskawa continues to make improvements or adjustments within the architecture of our products, some circumstances may require a controller software upgrade. One may notice slight changes to different menus or additional features after performing an upgrade. Software upgrades are not available upon immediate request. Software for upgrades will only be supported if deemed necessary by the Yaskawa Technical Support or Partner Support teams. One can perform this upgrade and be back into production within 15 minutes following the steps below. Always make sure to do a complete backup of the system before proceeding by following the instruction here. 

Note: This backup procedure requires the Smart Pendant software to be at least V2.1 and the controller software to be at least YAS4.33 for YRC1000 or YBS2.49 for YRC1000micro.  If you are using a Smart Pendant with a YRC1000micro controller and an older software version, follow the instructions here. 

Procedure

1. Download the software via the FTA link provided in a separate email. Do not redistribute under any circumstance.
2. Create a folder called “Yaskawa software” on your desktop (or any folder you can easily identify).
3. Extract the zipped software folder you downloaded into the “Yaskawa software” folder (Or the folder you created above).
4. Insert a USB memory stick into your PC. Note the drive which is assigned. Do not use the same storage device that was used for your backup. The backup should be kept in a safe place.

5. Open the extracted folder and locate the file “mk_vx_cf.exe” Double-click the file. 

   

6. Set the proper media as the target drive as mentioned above. Make sure to set the remaining target drives to “Not Use”.
7. Click the box to choose version up SD/USB (as shown below).

8. Click the start button in the lower-left corner. 

   

9. After the process is complete an indicator in the box will show it is complete. If this process takes more than about 2 minutes there could be a problem, such as the folder was not extracted in step 3. 

   

10. Insert the USB memory stick into the Smart Pendant.
11. Turn ON the main power of the YRC1000 and wait until the Smart Pendant has completed booting.
12. The Smart Pendant needs to be in MANAGEMENT security level.

13. Use the MENU to navigate to System Settings -> Packages 

    

14. Tap INSTALL on the top of the Packages screen. 

    

15. The Installation Packages screen will open and list the new software available on the USB memory stick. Tap the software version to select it and activate the INSTALL button. 

    

16. Press the INSTALL button. The controller will automatically re-boot into a software upgrade mode and install the new software. Allow this to complete.
17. Once the installation is complete the controller may automatically re-boot into standard operation mode or prompt you to manually cycle power to do so depending on controller and robot model type.
