This is a mock-up of a larger structure existing of arrays or dimples spaced 50mm apart on a curved surface (liquid tank).
The location of each row was discovered using two measurements from MotoSight™ 2D (Cognex). In the event the height of the dimple weld joint is to vary, we proposed to use touch sensing or possibly AccuFast to measure the height of the center of the dimple.
The sensor has been robot mounted to allow the sensor to be placed closer to, and immediately over, each dimple to be measured. Additionally, having the sensor mounted to the robot reduces the need for a structure over the robot system to provide overhead access with cranes for part movement.
