Product Solutions Group Lab Process Study: TIG Welding with Cold Wire Feed (Stainless Steel)
Travel speed: 6 in/min
Weaving Parameters (varied by welding pass):
- Pass#1 (0.5mm Amplitude, 1Hz)
- Pass#2 (2mm A, 1Hz, robot stop timers @ 1 and 3 for 0.1s)
Equipment:
- Fronius i-Wave
- DC-
- DynamicWire
- ~160A (varied between start section and main/majority of the weld seam)
- Pulse= 2Hz
- Arc length= ~4mm
- Single motor external axis -> coordinated motion with welding in flat position. 0.035" 316L.
Additional Notes:
1.) DynamicWire was used as this dramatically benefits the stability of the welding wire feed and eliminates wire sticking issues.
2.) After initial weld trials, we recommend that the optimum root gap opening should be 0.045" (customer currently using 0.125" for manual TIG, which would be difficult for stable robotic welding).
3.) The attached images show welds without back purge. It is recommended to back purge this application.
