How Weld Builder Generates Jobs
Weld Builder's primary purpose is to simplify the process of welding job programming. This is done using an interface tailor made with this goal in mind. The result is Weld Builder outputs standard INFORM jobs containing the programmed weld path and details all embedded within that job file. At the beginning of each job is placed a warning that it was auto generated using Weld Builder:
This means, as a user, it is possible to make modifications to these files directly, without the use of Weld Builder. However, this is not an advised or supported use case and may result in corrupting the job content within Weld Builder.
Precautions for Manual Edits
Making manual modifications of these jobs has a few potential drawbacks that may cause data loss or file corruption within the use of Weld Builder. If modifications are required to be made it is suggested to make a copy of the desired job as a backup. Generally, it is possible to make edits to any existing parameter value already included in the job, excluding comments.
Deletion or modification of many of the comment fields will corrupt the job and prevent further use within Weld Builder. This is why, when making manual edits it should be considered that these edits are final, and the job is to no longer be modified within Weld Builder itself.
Reading Changes Back into Weld Builder
If changes to an existing Weld Builder job were made outside of Weld Builder, it may be possible to still utilize the job within Weld Builder. Reloading these changes into Weld Builder can be done by pressing the [ Sync ] button in the upper right corner of the Job List page. If the job name does not appear in the list after the synchronization process has completed, the job is no longer valid and likely has one or more errors.
It should be noted that any unexpected behavior that occurs with this use case is not considered to be supported by Yaskawa.
Preventing Accidental Overwrites
After making manual changes to any Weld Builder generated job it is important to note that it may be possible for Weld Builder to overwrite these modifications unexpectedly. This may happen whenever a manual or automatic Build & Save process is executed within Weld Builder for the same named job. As the application with overwrite this file to preserve its changes.
This is why it is recommended to save a copy of the job to make these edits. To prevent Weld Builder from recognizing the job in the future, remove the above pictured comment block. Then use the [ Sync ] button on the Job List page. After this change no future edits with Weld Builder will be possible to this job file.
