What is "Weld Advisor" and When to Use It
Weld Advisor operates in the background of the Weld Wizard, offering guidance on welding speed, wire feed speed, and the appropriate welding process for the chosen power source.
It's designed for users with limited welding experience and provides general weld parameters recommendations, based on the given setup. Experienced welders may prefer to manually adjust parameters, for a more specialized weld.
How it Works and its Limitations
Weld Advisor uses the setup parameters provided by the user to calculate the Wire Feed Speed and recommend a Welding Process.
- Wire Feed Speed: The Joint Type and geometry, combined with robot speed and wire size, are used to calculate the required wire feed speed to achieve the entered seam geometry.
If the desired joint type is not listed, the Weld Advisor's recommendations may not be accurate, and it's advisable to consult an experienced welder.
If the calculated speed is too high, review the geometric parameters and consider using smaller values. - Welding Process: The entered filters are used to narrow down the available processes. Weld Advisor recommends the most general process for each power source.
Note: It's possible that certain specific processes match the filters and can be manually selected, but the Weld Advisor won't make a recommendation if no general process meets the filters.
It is important to note that the Weld Advisor is only available when controlling the welding process via Wire Feed Speed. It does not work if amperage is used instead.
How to Enable/Disable the Advisor
Weld Advisor can be enabled/disabled by using the toggle switch on the setup page (first step) of the Weld Wizard.
When selecting the welding parameter control method (also on setup page), note the following:
- If [ ROBOT ] is selected, Weld Advisor can auto-select weld parameters.
- If [ POWER SOURCE ] is selected, Weld Advisor provides recommendations but doesn't apply them.
Using the Advisor
In the "Weld Definition" step of Weld Wizard, click the [ USE RECOMMENDED ] buttons, and the Weld Advisor will autofill the Weld Travel Speed, Weld Process, and Wire Feed Speed parameters.
If no recommendation is available, a pop-up will display potential issues and recommendations.
- If "no recommendable process is found", the user can manually select a process from the dropdown list or modify the UWI process list using the UWI extension to include the recommended process.
- If "the recommended WFS is too high", try reducing the Robot Welding Speed or double-check the desired seam geometry parameters to reduce them.
- If "not all filters are set to make a single selection", there aren't enough filters to narrow down to a single process recommendation. The user might manually select the process in the drop down, following the indications given by the advisor.
- If "No Wire Feed Speed parameter configured", the recommended process uses amperage for control instead of Wire Feed Speed, so the process cannot be selected.
Note: If no process is made available, the suggested Wire Feed Speed in this dialog may use different units than expected. Here the application will select the unit based on the English or Metric unit system of the controller.
